Past Pupils

History of PPA

The activities of the Past Pupils’ Association of Saiva Mangaiyar Vidyalayam during the earlier years were crumbled in 1957 after the School’s 25th anniversary and again in 1982 after the 50th anniversary due to the communal disturbances in the country.

Our late Principals Late Deshabandu Nahammal Miss. Kasippillai (1934-1969) and late Miss. Manoranjitham Arumugam (1975-1991) and the President of the Welfare Society, Ceylon Overseas Service late Mr.Yogendra Duraiswamy, made the first move and initiated reviving the association in 1993. After 11 years of non-functioning the Association was revived in 1993, since the last one functioned until 1982.

Continuous Projects of the PPA

Educate the Girl Child Fund (EGC Fund)

The EGC Fund was started to support the deserving students who are unable to continue their studies due to financial needs. Launched in 1997 with the assistance of donors the Fund has sponsored the education of many. As of 2019 the Fund supports 35 students of the Vidyalayam with the School fee and the extracurricular charges.

Students’ Skills Development Programme

A soft skills development programme for the students of the Vidyalayam was initiated in 2017 with the objective of preparing the students for a successful career and life. The programme consists of various sub-programmes such as workshops for students, non-academic activities, enhanced leadership coaching for Prefects and non-financial assistance for School clubs. Often such skills are undervalued and trained less for, as a result the PPA launched the programme which is generally conducted once per term by subject matter experts for primary, middle and upper school separately.

Beyond Books

Beyond Books – a series of workshops organized by the Past Pupils’ Association, is an annual programme, conducted since 2019 for the post Ordinary Level students of the school, awaiting their results. The workshop series is conducted over a period of two weeks, undertaken with the objective of preparing the students for the many obstacles they may face in society. The workshop series is designed including topics that are not covered in the school curriculum.

School Walk 2012 & 2017

The PPA organized the School walks in 2012 & 2017 commemorating the 80th & 85th anniversaries of the Vidyalyam at which the entire school community; including the past and present students, past and present teachers, members of the Saiva Mangaiyar Kalagam, parents and well-wishers joined to celebrate the excellence of the Vidyalayam.  The 2012 Walk was held as a “Walk for a greener future”, while in 2017 it was tagged as ‘Drenched in pride’ celebrating 85 years of excellence.
